10:32 am: POLYSICS - We Ate The Machine

I gots me another awesome album and I'm gonna do another not-so-awesome review. Let's go!

01. Moog Is Love
You should buy the album just to have this song.

02. Pretty Good
The second single. The song itself is... Pretty Good. But it's truly great at the vocoder parts and the solo. There are better singles on this album than this, but this is still... Pretty Good. Damn, I can't stop saying that.

03. Rocket
I didn't really like this song when I first heard it, but now I've listened to it a lot and it's grown on me. If I would have to compare it to any of the songs from their last album, it would be either You-You-You or Always Happiness. In other words, it's damn good.

04. We Ate The Machine
Starts with some cool drum machine stuff that sounds like it came straight from one of P-MODEL's early 90's albums and goes straight into a metal riff, some metal clanging noises, a few noises from that intro I just mentioned and Yano's new-found ability to play double-bass drums. I actually would have liked it if Yano was on this song a bit more. It sounds like Hiro and Fumi are trading vocal blows, but I could imagine them all doing that.

05. DNA Junction
Starts with some badly-played piano. Not an insult, I'm pretty sure it's meant to sound bad. And it sounds really cool when Fumi, Yano and Hiro start playing over it. The verses actually are a little bit depressing sounding, it sounds like the lyrics are about a guy who never wants to change and always wants to be alone. The chorus has nothing to do with this, and is freakin' awesome. I like the solo a lot. It's as unique as the one on Professional Tennis from Karate House. This song actually reminds me of Wicked Laugh from For Young Electric Pop most, though.

06. Kagayake
I can tell that POLYSICS were listening to a lot of P-MODEL when they were making this album. The whole song sounds like something Susumu Hirasawa would have wrote. Especially the chorus, that's totally something Susumu would do, especially on his newer work. The verses sound more like Another Game-era P-MODEL, though.

07. Pony and Lion
I don't like the sound of the verses on this song. They aren't bad, but something about them.. I don't know. The insturmental bit that sounds like it's supposed to be a substitute for a chorus sounds awesome though. I like the talk box parts and the solo's the best out of this.

08. Arigatou
The noise at the start is annoying, but it's only a few seconds and the song that comes after it is awesome. It's Hiro rapping over what once again sounds like something made in the early 90's by P-MODEL. And he actually does a damn good job. Now I want to hear a POLYSICS-RIP SLYME collaboration. Wait, I've always wanted to hear that. It would make the greatest animutation music in the history of time. At the end of the second verse, the whole band comes in and rocks hard. And Hiro starts doing his rap through a megaphone in his best screaming voice. FREAKING AWESOME.

09. Irotokage
The lead synth in this sounds like the boat stage from Street Fighter II. In other words, it sounds great. I really love the chorus on this, because it has the best harmonies I've ever heard from POLYSICS. They almost sound like the freakin' Bee Gees at that part. That just shows you how talented of a band they are.

10. Mind Your Head
I love this riff, it's classic DEVO. Sounds like Hiro's rapping again over it. I am very pleased with this track, but I don't have much to write about it. It's good. That's really all you need to know, right?

11. Digital Coffee
I've thought it over for a while, and I would like to say "DIGITAL COFFEE FOR THIRD SINGLE OR DIE!!!!" It's just too great. It sounds like one of the better tracks off of For Young Electric Pop. And the chorus is like.. audible kawaii. It's near-perfect.

12. Boys and Girls
This actually kinda reminds me of Oh! Monaliza from Now Is The Time! but with big techno beats behind it. In other words, it's really fun but I can't help but thinking that it's stupid. But the chorus is really cool sounding.

13. Blue Noise
This is the best song on a great album. The reason I don't think it should be the third single is that it's a little too laid-back for it to become a hit or anything, but it's still amazing. It's what sounds like a chiptune being sung over by the vocoder and the talkbox. It kinda reminds me of their cover of Jerkin' Back'N'Forth in style, but without the upright bass and the jazz drums. This has the same purpose as the equally awesome MY ROOM from National P, it's a ballad to go right before the end song. I couldn't imagine it as an album ender like CODE 4, but it's still freakishly awesome.

14. Dry or Wet
The end song. I could have done without the freakin' clavicord being thrown in there, but this is a good song to end on. It works like Switch Love Show did and it's definetly a much better ending than their last album had, which was a blatant ripoff of Jocko Homo with a little Speak and Spell thrown in. So yeah, a good ending.

If you are a cool guy, you must have this album. And that's all I gotta say.
I'm going back to camping out at my mailbox waiting for my physical copy of this to come.
